  • Joel W. Hiser is a hospitality real estate broker in our San Francisco, California office and is responsible for oversight of the firm's brokerage and capital market activities. As a highly experienced real estate advisory professional, he also oversees the Firm's consulting practice. He has a broad base of experience in the areas of commercial real estate including: property sales, property management, leasing, contract negotiation, land-use entitlement and hotel asset management, development and debt financing.

    Throughout his career, Mr. Hiser has served in executive management capacities with leading international hotel and resort companies. Previously he was head of the North American brokerage operations and International Executive Committee Member for Horwath HTL and also served as Executive Managing Director for PKF Investments – Capital Markets Group, where he was responsible for overseeing all U.S. hotel brokerage operations. At Richfield Hospitality Services/Regal Hotels International, he served as Senior Vice President – Corporate Finance, Acquisitions and Development and was an Executive Committee Member. Richfield was the largest third party hotel management company in the world during his tenure with over 100 hotels under management and annual revenues exceeding $500 million. He supervised all management contract procurement activities and had direct oversight of the Company owned portfolio of hotels with approximately 8,500 rooms and about one half million square feet of office space. He was responsible for completing several hundred million dollars of hotel acquisition and financing, including the purchase of such well known hotel assets as the Millennium U.N. Plaza Hotel – New York, Biltmore Hotel and Office Tower – Los Angeles, Bostonian Hotel – Boston and the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel – Chicago.

    Prior to Richfield, Mr. Hiser was an Executive Committee Member and Head of Real Estate for Hawaii based Outrigger Hotels and Resorts, the largest hotel company in Hawaii. He was responsible for real estate acquisitions, project development, management contract procurement, asset management and property management and leasing activities for over 300 retail outlets, several hundred thousand square feet of office space and numerous apartment buildings and parking garages. Earlier in his career, he was Senior Vice President – Hotel Acquisitions for Metric Partners (currently Blackrock), a wholly owned subsidiary of Metropolitan Life with a multi-billion dollar hotel portfolio. He was a partner with Pannell Kerr Forster, an international C.P.A. and hospitality consulting firm and was a Principal in a hotel company that developed, managed and owned limited and full service hotels and resorts located throughout the United States including the 250 key, luxury, Charter at Beaver Creek Condominium Hotel, Doubletree Suites Hotel-St. Louis and Holiday Inn-CBD Dallas. During his career, Mr. Hiser has been directly responsible for completing well over $2.0 billion of hotel sales or acquisitions and has been the asset manager for two hotel portfolios with property values exceeding $1 billion.

    Mr. Hiser is a certified public accountant and licensed real estate broker in multiple states. He graduated from The School of Hospitality Business at Michigan State University and is an active member of its Alumni Association. He earned an MBA degree from California State University. As a very visible member of the hotel industry, he has written a number of articles for industry trade journals and is often featured as a speaker at industry conferences on matters related to hotel brokerage, management contracts, property development and finance matters.
